signature is invalid

Hi all,

hope anyone can help me with this:

I am trying to install a fresh copy of Windows XP Professional. After
having chosen the option to 'throw away' the old c:partition and to
install the fresh copy into the empty or unexisting c:partition
again, using the NTFS-option, after beginning installation, the
following message is displayed:

" The signature for Windows XP Professional is invalid. The error code
is 6ba.

The RPC server is unavailable.

Fatal error:

Setup failed to install the products catalogs. This is a fatal error.
The setup log files should contain more information. "

This message appears with 39 minutes of installation left.

Does anyone have a solution for this ? Help is much appreciated !

I have my doubts that you really deleted the C: and then created a
new C: and formatted with NTFS if you are getting that type of error message.

Did you boot off of the XP CD to start this "clean install" or did you autorun
the XP CD and then chose "New Install (Advanced)" instead of "Upgrade (Recommended)"?

If you are truly interested in a "Clean Install", I suggest you just start over by booting from
the XP CD and actually delete the C: and create a new C: and format with NTFS and
then install on the new C:

In my opinion, all peripherals such as Printers, Cameras, Scanners, USB whatevers, should
be turned off and disconnected prior to the clean install. You should also definetly disconnect
any Cable modem or "always on" DSL modem unless there is a router between them and the
computer and not connect them after the clean install untill the XP Internet Connection Firewall
or a third-party firewall is enabled. That is so that you do not get hit with msblaster worm or
one of its variants before you get all of the XP critical updates installed from the Windows
Update site. Same precaution applies if you are using Dial-UP.
