How do I create a sign up box on my website so I can collect the names and
email addresses of people visiting my site? Is it possible to do this on
frontpage?

You can do a simple form in FP and save the form results (name/emails) in a file in the_private folder (as say a csv)
- or use a database for the results (if your host supports them)
