The sign in button does not appear on windows mail when I use the newsgroup.

Not sure what you mean, since Windows Mail doesn't have a sign-in button.

Your newsgroup account may be corrupted. Delete that account, restart
Windows Mail, then recreate the account. If no improvement, which news
server is it?

Windows Mail comes with a news server called "Microsoft Communities"
already installed. That is actually an alias for the news server
msnews.microsoft.com. That server does not require a username/password login,
so leave those fields blank.

The sign in is only needed for Microsoft Communities if you want to use (of
see) the ratings feature and then filling in your Passport or Windows Live
ID information in the Microsoft Communities Properties takes care of it.
