Hi Guys,

i wonder if you could help me out, i am trying to install
Windows 2000 professional on an Dell Dimension 2100.
I keep getting the error message the following value in
the .sif file used by setup is missing or corrupted.
then in another line

Value 0 on the line in section (source disks) with key
(SP3.cab)

i then reboot and get NTLDR is missing, this is really
frustrating and any help from within the community will
be much appreciated.

Also, I've installed Win2K on this same hard-drive about an hour ago
and had it running fine
on another PC, swap it out and put it in the Dell Dimension 2100 and I
start getting the blue
screen of death, please help!

I was attempting to install using Floppies to get the install process
started. Initially I couldn't get the PC to boot from CD, once I did
the format and install went as usual and Windows 2K is up and running.

Anyone know why the floppies were causing the problem? I've used them
before and they worked fine...

No, the floppies were made using a download from Microsoft's website. I
assume that could have been the problem, how would I go about making
boot floppies from my installation CD?

Thanks,

You downloaded Windows Setup Boot disks (set of 4) from Microsoft.com?
Can you provide the link? I know the XP ones are available for download
but I have never seen the Windows 2000 ones available from Microsoft.
If you got the disks from Microsoft then I would think they would be the
real thing and that they should work without problems. In any case,
here is the information you requested:

How To Create Setup Boot Disks for Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;197063

Before you create the disks format the floppies from a command prompt
and make sure that there are no bad sectors on the diskettes, the
diskettes should show all space as available without errors, that will
avoid potential problems when you try to make or use the disks.

Best to boot the CD-Rom. If not possible your CD-Rom is probably a slip
streamed install. Try replacing the file txtsetup.sif on the first floppy
with the file (same name) found in \i386 directory on your CD-Rom.
