Did I read Microsoft's info correctly when I think it
says that a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Joystick cannot be
used with the Windows XP Home Edition OS I bought?

The software which came with the joystick can not be used in XP. If the
joystick uses the gameport connector, the drivers are already in XP and are
limited.

I don't have a Force Feedback stick, but try XP's built-in drivers. Install
a "Microsoft Sidewinder (Autodetect)" in the Game Controllers control panel.
(The controller software version 3.02 is not XP compatible.)

There are no profiles included with these drivers, and Microsoft seem to
have ended support for them, but they may work for you.

On the other hand, I believe that Microsoft has announced that they're
getting out of the PC game controller market altogether. It may be time to
buy a non-MS stick.
