Will the sidewinder pro joystick work with XP Pro? If so,
where can I find the driver to install the joystick?

Hi Joyles,

Here are instructions for both the USB and the Gameport models:

The version 4 software for USB Sidewinders is XP compatible, of
course, you have to be using an administrators account to install it*.
If it gives you a warning, you can click OK and continue installing it.
*Install the software before connecting the device to the USB port!

Version 3 software isn't XP compatible, we'll use XP's drivers instead.
While USB devices just plug and play, GamePort devices need work:

To install a GamePort controller, Plug it in, click Start / Control Panel /
Switch to Classic view if you haven't already / click Game Controllers
Click Add... / Select Microsoft Sidewinder Auto Detect / OK / OK.

Give this a try

Goto the Game Controller Control Panel
Then Add, Microsoft Sidewinder (auto-detect)...

Please note that any Profiling software that came with the gameport hardware
won't work as that was not designed for Windows XP (or 2000). There are
currently no
plans for updates.

Why not? It cannot be *that* much trouble, is it?

The Profile Editor and Activator were very handy tools, when using the MS
Sidewinder.

I still use my Sidewinder Pro on a Win98 box but for XP I bought a Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold.
It's a much better stick, cheaper and fully supported.
