Sidewinder Freestyle Pro XP drivers

I am trying to install the Sidewinder Freestyle Pro on my
XP box with the error message "Sidewinder Game Device
Software 3.x installs drivers that are incompatible with
this version of Windows". On the Microsoft site, I see
the drivers for Win 95/98, but none for XP. Do they exist?

Connect the device to the PC, go to the Control Panel and click on Game
Controllers. Use the AutoDetect feature and XP will install its built in
drivers.

I too have a similar problem, I had CFS, CFS2 with '98,
then I replaced my hard drive & loaded XP. When I went to
load the Microsoft, Sidewinder Freestyle Pro software I
got the same message as you. If you have the answer,
please drop a line to (e-mail address removed), I'd much
appreciate it.

We've posted many times in this newsgroup that Windows XP does not support
the format in which the 3.x version drivers were written. That's one of the
problems with the older game port-type devices.

Easily fixed though, but connecting the controller and then go into Control
Panel/Game Controllers and Adding the new controller. You'll be able to
select the Microsoft SideWinder Controller (Auto Detect) and XP will install
the proper drivers for you. However, you'll not be able to program the
buttons (the old "profiles") and save those, but if the games support such
Options, you can do it there.
