Sidewinder 2 doesn't work with old DOS games? WTF? Help!

I just got this Sidewinder 2 and nowhere does it
say "doesn't work with pre-W98 games" except somewhere in
the manual on the CD. Is there a workaround for this? I
play several old games (X-Wing and TIE Fighter among
others) and don't want to have to go back to the store to
get some stupid really basic joystick and hope THAT works.

Help!

DOS didn't support USB so I don't know of anyway to get the joystick to work
in DOS. If you are still playing DOS games you will still need hardware
that is supported by it. Kind of sucks, I know, but I would try to find a
cheap joystick for those games. I have a SW 2 and I love it. I don't play
any non Windows games anymore.
