Sidebar Properties

How can I change my sidebar to transparent, or its color for that matter?
I've seen mention to "color and appearance" but all I see is a "properties"
option that does not give me the choice of changing color or appearance. I
can turn it off and on, detach gadgets and such but nothing more.

I"m using Vista Home Premium.

There are no such options. It is on/off - left/right + monitor choice +
always on top yes/no.

You may not have Aero turned on. In the Start Menu, click on Help and
Support and search for "Aero" to help you enable it (i.e., click on
"Troubleshoot problems with Windows Aero").
