I need to find out what a SID and a SAM is and what they
do. Does anyone know? Thanks for your help

See the following link for more details. The sam stores info for local user
accounts and groups. The sid is the way the operating system identifies
users and groups - we are just a number. Each user has a unique sid. If you
create a user, then delete and recreate - to the operating system that user
with the same exact name is a different user because he was assigned a new
