SID and Sysprep problem.... PLEASE HELP

S

Sherry

Hi guys,

Yesterday I installed XP from scratch with all the
standard programs. Then I wanted to make an image for the
other new pc's. First I ran the setupmgr.exe and then the
sysprep.exe. Then I booted to the floppy and transfered
the image to a network drive.

The problem Im concerned with is that after I ran the
setupmgr.exe it prompted me to save the sysprep answer
file .inf to the A: drive, which I did. Im afraid that I
should of saved it to the C:\sysprep folder.

Is the image I created for these new pc's now wrong? Will
all the new pc's I create with this image have the same
SID???

Please help. Thank You.
Sherry.

hi sherry,

First of all, all file generated by Sysprep ahve to remain
under C:\sysprep folder .inf as well

Second as lonmg as you have run your sysprep tool from
the .bat file, whcih is nomraly just lunching sysprep.exe
the SID will be regenerated on each client system reboot
process.

In oppositeway, if you run sysprep with paramter -nosid
then SID will be not regenerated.

Hope it helps

Serge..Thank you very much, your answer was very helpful.
I did run the sysprep.exe and I clicked RESEAL to delete
the SID before I created the new image. I guess this
C:\sysprep folder gets deleted or stays on the image??

Yes the sysprep folder remaind on the image.
The folder will be automatically deleted at the end of the
installation on your client machine
