Shutting down XP

Neil Smith

Dear All, I recently upgraded to Outlook 2002. Now it will not automatically
close when I shut down my Windows XP machine, as did previous versions. I
demands that it be closed first. Any way to cut this corner?

It does for me. Check XP for registry problems.
You can also try uninstalling Outlook *fully* then reinstalling. Remember
when you uninstall it leaves registry entries behind, you may have left over
entries from previous versions as well as your newer version entries and
they may be causing problems- if a reinstall *after uninstalling* doesn't
help try uninstalling then clean the registry of *all* left over entries
*before* a reinstall.

And have you looked through the MS knowledgebase? There is often help for
questions in there.

Some common reasons why Outlook will not shut down completely when you click
either the X or Exit:

1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle.
2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support
for an alleged fix.
3. Franklin-Cover Plan Plus!
4. COM Add-ins.
5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background
to check for new mail and fire reminders.
6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing
mail.
