Running Windows XP with HP Pavilon 521N PC. When I click
shutdown, Windows appears to do shutdown, screen goes
black and within 2 seconds, HP logo comes up and Windows
XP reloads. Can only shut down by pushing Power on/off
button when screen goes black. Any ideas to look for
would be appreciated. I was given this machine by a
company that had a small network ( 3 PC's ) that was
upgrading all pc's. I did disable the network connection
via the Windows XP network wizard. Thanks for any/all
responses. I am fairly new to PC's.

You have something that is crashing on being asked to close - and the
system's 'automatically restart' is cutting in. Turn this off: in
Control Panel - System - Advanced, click Settings in the Startup and
Recovery section. There uncheck 'automatically restart'. You can also
usefully change the 'write debugging information' to (none). You may
now get a Blue screen failure instead, but at least will get some
guidance as to what is happening
