Windows doesn't shut them all down at the same time, it asks each
program whether it can be shut down. The answers to those queries
decide which programs get shut down first.

Thanks for that information ... i didnt know that.Sometimes when i click
shutdown i get the computer hanging , presumably from one stubborn
programe or other that still may be writing to disk .I thought that a
programe that would enable me to click shutdown ,which would then shut
down each of my running apps at a determined set time might be
helpful.Rather like a startup delayer only in reverse.

If you force shutdown a program when it's already been asked if it can
be shut down and said no, you run the risk of damaging data files.
Give the program a reasonable time to shut down (like 60 seconds with
no disk activity). You can always force it off with Task Manager.
(BTW, never believe, when you see "Program Not Responding", that the
program has died - it may have, or it could be running and just not
responding until it finishes what it's doing.)

Hi bassbag, Hi all, :-)

Sorry if I don't understood exactly.
If the problem appears only at shutdown, maybe you want to auto-close
the hunged programs. (This solved this problem at my system).
For this reason I download the last freeware version of X-Setup, from:
http://www.aplusfreeware.com/categories/LFWV/X-Setup.html .
You can find the auto-closing plugin at (Classic menus):
Startup/Shutdown->Shutdown->Windows NT/2K/XP->Program Shutdown->AutoEnd
Programs.
a) Check the box (at right) Auto End Hung Programs and then b) press
the button Apply Changes (F9) or press F9.

At next plugin (Program Timeout), you can change the default 20 sec
timing for autoclose (but I don't think its a good idea).

After applying changes, maybe restarting or Log off-on os needed.

Other usefull plugins also available. (If X-Setup brings up a Warning
Box, press "NO" and don't enable dangerous plugins).
Also be sure to make a restore point after installing X-Setup and
before opening it for applying changes to your system (just in case).

Good Luck!!!
Giorgos. :-)
