Shutdown Problems

I have a question that I'm sure that someone here can answer.

I'm running XP-Pro SP1 with all additional OS updates and all application
software updates in place. I run Zona Alarm firewall, and Grisoft's AVG
anti-virus software.

This seems like a slick system and everything runs flawlessly until I
select Shutdown or Restart. Just before the screen changes from the normal
desktop to the window "Shutting Down Windows" appears, I see one, or
sometimes two, small windows flash on the screen which go by so fast I
can't read them. One looks similar to the little window that appears when
an application can't end. The other is also similar to that, but I think I
can make out the word "error" at the top of the window. One of the windows
has a progress bar that zips across, too.

Is there anything I can do to slow down the shutdown so that I can read
these windows, or cause the system to pause at this point?

I'm a nut about things working properly, and even though the operation of
my system while it's in use has absolutely no problems, I would like to
resolve these issues.

TIA

Next time you have Windows XP up and happily running, Click: Start. Click:
All Programs. Right-click: My Computer. On the drop-down menu, choose:
Manage. Look at the logs under Event Viewer in the System Tools section
(there are three of them). See whether they give you any indications as to
what errors occurred during the last shutdown.

Let us all know.

Happy hunting.

Thanks! There are several things being logged that I ned to investigate,
whether related or not. I guess I shouldn't consider myself all that
knowledgable, since I had never looked at these logs.
