Shutdown problem

I have a shutdown problem which I think is a hardware problem.
When I use the shutdown option the system restarts instead of shutting down...
1. Trying to use System Restore of an earlier date (when the shutdown was ok) did not help.
1. I formatted the Drive C: (NTFS), re-installed Windows XP (Home) -no help either.
3. Restoring from a Norton Ghost Backup did not help.

My System:
Windows XP - Home - Version 2002 - SP 1

An INTEL 2.6 GHZ /800MHZ HYPER THREADING : GIGABYTE - GA-8IG1000MK Motherboard using
800 MHZ FSB HYPER-THREADING technology
and DUAL CHANNEL DDR 400 (512 MB), supporting USB 2.0

Any help will be appreciated

Is this a new system or just an upgrade to XP?

It could be many things, like your bois settings, or your power management
settings, or your chipset problems (VIA on your motherboard by any chance?)

I cant remember the URL where there is a list of things to try, but I'm sure
soeone else will. I tried all of them and it still wont shutdown, yet I have
another board that works fine. The difference? SIS and Intel/VIA chipsets.

Good luck. Let the newsgroup know if you solve the problem.

Hello,
Many thanks for your good advice. My problem was indeed a BIOS one.
I entered the Power Management Setup of my system's BIOS.
As my internet connection is by cable (on all the time), so I disabled the
"ModemRingOn/WakeOnLan option, and this solved the shutdown problem.
Thanks
Zeev
