If my computer stays on for about 20 minutes, I can no longer access the
shutdown buttons from the start menu, and if I shutdown from the
Crtl-Alt-Delete screen, shutdown hangs on the Windows is shutting down
screen. Everything is normal for the first 20 minutes.

How do I debug this?

Thanks. There were two tips that may have prompted me to do the right
thing. One was that ASUS mobo's for the AMD had a problem in that ACPI was
not enabled during install. Well I don't have an ASUS, but I do have an
Abit mobo for an AMD. So I thought the problem might be the same. So I
simply elminated a go-to-standby on idle for an hours in the power
management config. Since I did this, the problem went away.

PS, the other tip may be relevant as well. It says that if you have Nero
software and go to standby twice, shutdown no longer works. Well I have
Nero and the idle for an hour setting said go to STANDBY.
