shutdown problem

HI All, when I attempt to shutdown my PC, I get error msgs something like
:....DDE server windows"......must click it to continue shutdown, how do I
rid my PC of this annoyance?

I'm getting the same problem. Repeated windows coming up saying "DDE Server
Not responding" takes about a dozen "end now" clicks to get the dang thing
to shut down. Any idea of a fix other than reformat and reload everything or
buy a MAC?
