Shutdown Problem in XP

I recently installed Windows XP to a Pentium III machine.
During shutdown, I get the screen "Windows is shutting
down". The power light will go off on the computer, but
this screen remains. I have to turn off the power on the
machine to kill it. Any suggestions?

at that machine now, but will try soon.
