Shutdown arangement

Is there anyway to re-arrange my shutdown options, my computer is heaviliy
upgraded aswell as overclocked and produces alot of heat so I have six fans
running inside my tower to keep everything cool. My problem is that when I
click start the first thing I see is what looks like a power button, its
actually a stand by or sleep button, so I have to hit the tab and select
shutdown from there. Is there a way I can make that first power looking
button shutdown instead of stand by?

No. The new layout of these options has been subject of much feedback.
Microsoft's position is that the current arrangement best suits the majority
of users; who are in enterprise environments.

Control Panel > Power Options > Select your power plan then select the Edit
Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > expand Power buttons and
lid > Power button action. Then you can select shutdown. :) Don't forget
Apply, OK where needed ;)

A rather long way to do it I know, but that is it :)

Create two shortcuts on your desktop. The shortcut should point at
C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe. Edit the shortcut property target lines
as such:

1. C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe /r /t 002
This will restart the computer after a two second countdown. Rename
the shortcut as "restart"

2. C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe /s /t 002
This will shutdown the computer after a two second countdown. Rename
this shortcut as
"shutdown"

Since doing this I never use the start button to shutdown or reboot any
more.

Well then it would be nice if Vista had the same option for your
keyboard "sleep" button that XP does. In XP you can program that
button to do a shutdown. Vista does not have that option for that
button.

Richard Urban -- Bless you !
Your approach to " shutdown " really was a dream come true with Win2K3
Server. As some of you may be aware, one has to provide their life history,
in order to, be able to restart or shut that operating system down. There
used to be a little known registry editing change that was available but it
no longer works on the latest Win2K3 Server edition. Thanks a million - you
saved the day !! ....... John.

To change the default action of the button on the Start Menu:

Got to Control Panel\Power Options\Change Plan Settings (for the Power Plan
you are using)\Change Advance settings\Scroll down the list to Start Menu
Power Button\Click on the drop down to change to the desired behavior.
