Shut off slowed down enormeously

Dear all,

My WinXP machine is shutting down with the speed of a turtle, and I mean a
real slow turtle.

Booting is no problem however.

As far as I can remember, it has become that way after I installed a set of
15 critical and recommended MS-updates.

Is there anybody having the same phenomenon?
Can it be cured?

Thanks.

I was comparing WinXP and WnXP.
It was about 15 seconds until I installed that bunch of about 15 MS Updates
(a mix of critical & recommended ones).
Now it became about 50 seconds.
At least one of the updates should be the culprit for that, but I wonder
which one.

My machine goes very quickly to a screen that tells me that Windows is
closing down, and it hangs there for about 30 to 40 seconds before to knock
off.

As things are added, shutdown will take longer while settings are
being saved. Could you be more specific about the amount of time it is
taking, in clock time rather than turtle time? :]

Hi Maureen,

Yes of course I can :-))

About 10-15 seconds before the MS-updates, more than 50 seconds after the
updates.

B.t.w. I like turtles a lot.
I just wish that my binary turtle would be a little tat faster.

I don't think that 50 seconds sounds too bad, even though the
percentage increase is dramatic. Perhaps others will have a different
opinion.
