SHUT DOWN

JOE

I have recently had trouble with pop up messages and them
taking away my system speed.

I have downloaded Stop Zilla and spykiller and they stop
the pop ups but my system is still slow.

More importantly, MY SYSTEM WILL NOT "SHUT DOWN" - the
screen goes hazy like it will shut down and 10 seconds
later goes back to a previous regular screen.

I have removed as many programs as I could both in
the "start up" and directly from directories.

What Can I do to allow the machine to shut down properly?
Thanks.

I get the impression that your machine is seriously compromised
with all these programs that you downloaded and installed from the
Internet.

To fix the problem, I would check the Windows Task Manager
(Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc), select the middle tab and find out what's
eating my CPU time.

Next I would go to the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and
uninstall everything that is not absolutely essential.

If this does not solve the problems then I would do these things:
- Rebuild the machine from scratch
- Install & maintain a good virus scanner
- Install & maintain a good firewall
- Become extremely selective in what I allow to run on my PC.

Assuming that everything on the Internet is well written is
a dangerous assumption. Very often the rule goes: The less
it costs, the greater the damage it does.

Hi there.

I think you should look at Ad-Aware from LavaSoft.

It scans your machine for any malicius software that have been silently
installed.

Great software - has helped me many times.

Good luck.
