Shut down menu

When i ckick start and then click turn off computer, the turn off computer
menu appears, the problem is that i cant select "standby" but can select the
other 2, can someone help with this problem??????
 
Well i have a laptop (Fujitsu Siemens) and for a while everything was working
normally and suddenly the standby button is grey and can't be clicked. Please
help in this problem: is it a hardware malfunction or software?????
Plz reply as fast as possible
