shrinking screen

When I boot up my 21" Dell Trinitron monitor the boot-up screen
covers the entire surface of the monitor. When I get to the desktop
phase the used area of the screen has shrunk. I lose over an inch on
top and on each side. The picture is flush with the bottom of the
monitor.

I have a feeling that this shrinkage has increased in the last few
days.

Does anyone know how I can get informtion on re-adjusting this area.

Thanks

Try the controls on the monitor itself.

Trinitron usually indicates a Sony CRT type monitor, not a LCD or
Flat Panel type.

Is Windows using the generic "Plug-&-Play Monitor" definition file or
a vendor/model specific one. What refresh rate is the monitor set to ?

If the monitor is a CRT, have you performed a Degaussing on it ?
Usually from the OSD ( On-Screen Diagnostics ) you'll see a magnet
icon that represents the demagnetizing function.
