Please turn off your Caps Lock key. It's considered shouting, is extremely
rude and makes the posting very difficult to read.

Have you looked for a BIOS upgrade at the website of your motherboard
manufacturer?

When you formatted the hard drive, did you do so with the XP CD... or with
some other boot floppy disk?

Have you looked at the website of the hard drive manufacturer? Maxtor for
example has a KB at their website and it gives the solution:

So you typed all that without looking at the screen?! Sorry, but that's not
a good enough excuse.

Oh, and when Cari says that make your posts very difficult to read, you are
still allowed to use them in the appropriate places, you know (at the
beginning of sentences and for the possessive pronoun, for example).

excuse me but what has it got to do with you, when i
apologise i dont expect some one else to stick their nose
in and make sarcastic comments so if you have nothing to
say what helps with my problem then i politely suggest
you SHUT THE F*** UP

That is "makes" (you know third person singular in the present tense, oh
grammar god?), and "post", since this person made a "post".
you are
still allowed to use them in the appropriate places, you know (at the
beginning of sentences and for the possessive pronoun, for example).

Use what? Oh, I get it, "them" means something to you, but "them" also means
it should be obvious to everyone else, simply because you stated it here, oh
grammar god, LOL!!

Why don't you learn what you preach before you attempt being the grim reaper
of English grammar.

Did you look at the KB article on the Maxtor site that I sent you? It
clearly states you need to upgrade your motherboard BIOS.

So the next stop for your should be the website of your motherboard
manufacturer.

Check the manufacturer of your PC for an updated bios - there was a
time when some PCs didn't recognize large hard drives. Failing that
you could see if the drive manufacturer has "overlay" software to
allow your system to see the whole drive.

If you haven't read the URL that Cari posted, do so.

There's nothing worse than an idiot who thinks he's smart.
"I" is a pronoun, but *not* a posessive pronoun.
Reference to oneself does not necessarily imply posession.
