Shrinking Hard Drive on Brand New Computer!

i have a brand new HP pavilion notebook with a 224 GB hard drive. it appears
that every time i restart my computer i have LESS space on the hard drive.
Plus, just sitting and 'sleeping' causes the hard drive to shrink. i have
already done a system restore with the friendly but not to helpful people at
HP (they can't seem to find a solution). also, i downloaded pictures with a
total size of 1.36 MB which took away 4 GB OF SPACE! i've run both norton
system scan and windows defender only to find nothing. Does anyone no what's
going on? Please help.

thanks,
scott

have you tried deleting the file to see if you get your space back ? when i
first got my packard bell it went through space like mad 141 GB hard drive
went to 100 in about a week but its stayed around there i dont think it ever
took 4gb off a 1.36mb file though its been alrite since try running
temperory file cleanups see if you get your space back aswell

you havent by any chance got one of them norton protected recycle bins ?
sometimes theyll store files in a different location when you delete them
what norton are you running try the cleanup on there if it has one.
otherwise i would try updating your bios

That happened to my mom's computer years ago when she was running
Windows ME (Mistake Edition). For some reason the recycle bin went
sort of haywire. Things got in, but they never got out. The more she
deleted, the less space she had. Had to wipe the machine and install a
real operating system.

Indexing. Vista does this in the background. The OS will eventually get
everything indexed and quit taking up more space.

Patience, cricket.
