Showing numbers to the nearest thousand

I have a sheet full of large numbers and I want to format it just t
show numbers to the nearest thousand without having to divid
everything by 1000 manually.

I've seen it done before but can't remember how.

Any ideas?

to change the value.
to format these cells use a custom format like
#.

Simon, search "Custom Number Format" in Excel 2000's help, and you'll find:

To display 12000 as 12, use this custom number format: #,
To display 12200000 as 12.2, use this custom number format: 0.0,,

The comma is the equivalent of dividing by 1000.

go to format->cell, under number format choose custom, and in type put "0."
