Showing file names Strange Behavior

In Explore when I click on the name of a folder I always get a list of th
foldeers in it. Asmall Icon with the name beside it. Suddenly, some new
programs show only the Icon. If you click the icon with either the right or
the left mouse button, the file name appears. As soon as you release the
mouse button the file name disappears The pogram runs fine when you double
click the the most likely icon, but why can't I get the file name to appear
beside the icon as is the case with all my other programs. None of the "VIEW"
setting affect it and if you try renaming the file it works, but the new name
does not show on the screen either.

I can live with it fine becausethese progra,s put icons on my Desktop, but I
am curious as to what is happening to hide the file name.

Thats strange. First thing I would suggest is you upgrade your antivirus (if
you have one.) If you don't have an antivirus, you must get one as soon as
possible. Gone are the days when antiviruses and firewalls were an option for
computer users. These days they are mandatory to protect your computer from
"strange occurences". Also try removing malware such as spyware etc using
tools such as Spybot Search & Destroy, and Lavasoft Adaware SE.

Next thing you should to is upgrade your operating system. Open up Internet
Explorer. Go to Tools --> Windows Update.

If that doesn't fix the problem, I'd suggest you try to Repair the
installation of your operating system using the original CD. Boot from that
CD and choose the options to REPAIR windows. Make sure you backup your data
before you do Repair, just as a precaution.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Ricky for the suggestion. I have An AVG updated daily. I will run a
full virus scan. Since I wrote another strange thing happenned. I moved a
file with a visible name to another directory and just the icon appeared in
that directory. And I noticed that the directory now has no name, just the
folder icon. I must be infecrted as you suggest. I will let you know.
