Show recently opened documents in Word

I am using XP SP2 and cannot use the recently used documents option in Tools
for Word, because it is greyed out. I wish to use the Classic Start menu, and
this is a stand-alone computer. Could someone please advise how I can
activate this option?

To change the Start menu to the classic Start menu:
1. In Control Panel, double-click Appearance and Themes.
2. Click Taskbar and Start Menu.
3. On the Start Menu tab, click Classic Start menu, and then click OK.

If you used TweakUI or another 3rd party utility to customize Windows
to disable document shortcuts from being added to the Start Menu, then
that's where the problem lies. For more information see:

Thank you, your post didn't answer the question, but it did put me on the
right track. I had unchecked some 'startup' settings in MSCONFIG after
reading an article (from one of microsoft's sites I think) and have now
chacked them all, and am now back to the option being available.
