Show Desktop Icon

B

Bernard George

I have deleted my "Show Desktop" icon, my five year old son dragged it to
the desktop, I dragged it back to the quick launch bar, but it was still on
the desktop so I deleted it. Now the icon that was on the quick launch bar
has gone to be replaced by a symbol showing that the pc is looking for
desktop shortcut.

How do I get "Show Desktop" icon back?

Thanks

Bernard

Create a text file in Notepad as follows:

[Shell]

Command=2

IconFile=explorer.exe,3

[Taskbar]

Command=ToggleDesktop

Save it as Show Desktop.scf then drag it to the Quick launch bar.

Or just click on this link:

Restore/Add Show Desktop to Quick Launch (Line 61)

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Also note that you can do the same thing with a keyboard
shortcut: the combination of the Windows key + D or the Windows
key + M.

Norton isn't telling you it's a malicious script; it's telling
you that it's a script and that scripts *can* be malicious.
Kelly's scripts aren't malicious. Kelly is among the most
reliable of people who post here and help people, and her web
site has helped enormous numbers of people,

Yes, I would ignore Norton's warning.

I ran the fix from Kellys and got no error messages. I got a "Toolbar menus

Shell 32 was succesful". I have an icon (but not the correct picture) which
says its a shortcut to SCF file located in C:\Documents and

clicking this icon nothing happens.

Any ideas or what more can I tell you.

Many thanks

I have deleted my "Show Desktop" icon, my five
year
old
son
dragged
it to the desktop, I dragged it back to the
quick
launch
bar,
but
it was still on the desktop so I deleted it.
Now
the
icon
that was
on the quick launch bar has gone to be replaced
by
a
symbol
showing
that the pc is looking for desktop shortcut.

How do I get "Show Desktop" icon back?

Create a text file in Notepad as follows:

[Shell]

Command=2

IconFile=explorer.exe,3

[Taskbar]

Command=ToggleDesktop

Save it as Show Desktop.scf then drag it to the
Quick
launch
bar.

Or just click on this link:

Restore/Add Show Desktop to Quick Launch (Line
61)

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Also note that you can do the same thing with a
keyboard
shortcut:
the combination of the Windows key + D or the
Windows
key
+ M.

That's the correct contents. You'll see the same thing in a much
earlier message from me if you down to the quotes at the bottom
of this message.

What happens if you double-click that scf file directly?

I ran the fix from Kellys and got no error messages. I got a
"Toolbar
menus have been restored" pop-up and then a RegSvr32 pop up
saying
"Dllinstall in Shell 32 was succesful". I have an icon (but
not
the
correct picture) which says its a shortcut to SCF file
located
in
C:\Documents and Settings\A&J\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Quick Launch. On clicking this icon nothing
happens.

Any ideas or what more can I tell you.

Go to that SCF file, open it in notepad, and post its contents
here.

Andy, not to give you a hard time, but when you ask for

this, you need to be very explicit. Please help us to
help

"Did not work for me" tells us nothing we can give you

Exactly what did you do, and exactly what happened? If
you
got
an
