Hi,

i updated Explorer 7 today, and now for some reason the Quick Launch bar is
unextendable, as in it won't allow me to have more than three shortcuts
showing (i usually have 5).

There used to be some little circles bit which i could drag out to show more
than three shortcuts, but that seems to have gone.

Anyone know how i can get it back so i can choose how many shortcuts i want
showing?

Many thanks!

Right-click the taskbar & clear the checkmark next to 'Lock the Taskbar'. The dotted handles should
then reappear & allow you to resize the Quick Launch bar.

Issues related to the use of IE7 should be posted in the internet explorer
newsgroup.

Or on the web:

IE7 is still in development. It should not be used on other than a test
system.

Well, i wasn't entirely sure it was iE 7 related, and the problem was more
to do with an XP 'feature' (even if it were caused by the IE7 update), which
i was i posted here and not there. But i'll try it anyway, thanks.

The key word there being 'should'.. :) No, i've tried that and it still
doesn't appear in any shape or form.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway, Keith.

Ahh...that would have been helpful information to include in your initial post :)

Assuming that you are still able to check & uncheck 'Lock the Taskbar' (as opposed to the option
being greyed out), the most likely cause is a Group Policy setting.

In the Group Policy editor (XP Pro only, your post doesn't mention Home or Pro :)

Local Computer Policy -> User Configuration -> Admin Templates -> Desktop

The setting is named "Prohibit adjusting desktop toolbars". It should be set as Not Configured or
Disabled.

If the setting was not made thru Group Policy, the G.P. editor will not be 'aware' of it, so double
check the appropriate registry entries -- this is also the way to fix the issue for XP Home:

Under both of the following keys, look for a value named 'NoMovingBands', if it exists, delete it.

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]

[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer]

Logoff/Logon will be necessary after deletion for Explorer to be made 'aware' of the changes.

It would have indeed, i'm sorry. (i realised afterwards and then added that
bit when posting elsewhere, if that helps.. :)

Despite the lack of relevent info, your advice to go into the Group Policy
editor was spot on. i ran the GP editor, set it to disabled, restarted and
voila! There was my adjustment bar thing once more. It also fixed the other
end of the bar which lost its adjusting thing as well, just today. i'm now a
very happy bunny again.

Thanks very much for the help, Keith. You obviously know your onions! :)
