Shortcuts Added To SendTo Don't Show Up

I've never seen a windows installation do this before. This is in Xp Pro. At
work. we recently upgraded from 2000 to Xp. They used a canned type upgrade
where it's a total rewrite. I don't know if others have this problem or
don't know because they have never tried to use this very nice capacity.
Shortcuts added to the sendto directory don't show up when right clicking
and selecting send to.
I've been using this convenient feature for years. The first I always enter
is word so I can right click on any file with any or even no extension and
send it to word.
But it doesn't show. My system has an admin, all users, default user and me.
I tried putting a shortcut to word in the send to for every user...still
nothing.
Stumped our support staff also. I told him I was going to leave a message
here and he asked me to let me know if I get a solution.

I believe that you are copying the shortcut for Word form your desktop and
that you have a recent version of office. The shortcuts for recent versions
of office are not proper shortcuts but rather some kind of different
shortcut - somebody help me out with the right terminology. If you look at
the "Target" entry for the Word shortcut then it will read something like
"Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003". These kind of shortcuts don't
work in send-to.

If you want it to work then create a copy from winword.exe (somewhere in
c:\program files\Microsoft Office\) in your send-to folder. That should
work.

Thanks, that was the problem. It works now.

The shortcuts for recent versions

shortcut -

"Namespace items" - I refer to the ones that Windows creates, Recycle Bin
for example, as system shortcuts (vs regular shortcuts) but they're
namespace items too.

Windows Installer Shortcuts. They don't support Drag n Drop so can't work in Sendto.
