Shortcut to delete element, other than Ctrl-D?

Hi,
I'm a very passionate shortcut user, and constantly struggle with the
"security" effect of Ctrl-D (discussed in [1]); if the header has
focus, it deletes the element, but if focus is in the body part, Ctrl-
D just brings up the Font dialog.

Is there a way to delete an element when the body field is focussed?
(eg. other standard keyboard shortcut, configurable shortcut, VBA-
trick or any other smart way?)

My "Plan B" is to create a keyboard macro with Autohotkey [2] to do
"Shift-TAB, Ctrl-D" (eg. jump from body to header, then delete), but
the issue is that this key will be system-wide and can give unexpected
side effects...

Considering you are then composing a new message, you can simply press
ALT+F4 which is the generic command for closing the active window. As you
are composing, you are then prompted to save it as a draft or not which you
can easily dismiss/confirm with the keyboard as well.

Esc will also close windows. If the item was edited, it brings up the
save/cancel dialog first.

Unfortunately, this won't do the trick - I often want to do this on
other elements.
Eg; I double click an appointment to check it's contents (verifying
safe to delete), and *then* I want to get rid of it. By opening
appointments from either the calendar or the Reminders Window, I
automatically get focus set to the body.

Is there no other shortcut to delete an item? Or a way to manually
configure a shortcut for that action?

Are you using Outlook 2007?
Then you can press the keyboard sequence;
ALT, H, D
(based on an English version of Outlook)

Esc, Del deletes the reminder, not the item, if you are in the reminder
dialog

Ah, thanks everyone!
A bit silly I didn't come up with this myself; ironically I just used
the same shortcut pattern for a signature insert (another post in this
group) just hours ago, and didn't think enough myself. Brain turned
off today, it seems!

But thanks a lot. "Alt-F, D" will also do with most elements, it
seems.
