Is there anyway to remove the arrow in the white box from
shortcuts placed on the desktop?

Thanks,

Brian

You can get rid of the arrows with a registry edit, or more
easily and more safely by using the free TweakUI, downloadable as
part of Microsoft PowerToys at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

However, my recommendation is that you do *not* do this. The
arrows serve an important function--providing quick visual
identification of a shortcut. If you remove the arrows, you run
the substantial risk that sooner or later you will delete
something you wanted to keep, thinking that you were just
deleting a shortcut to it.

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP!, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its Explorer - Shortcut page allows you to select - I suggest trying
'Light arrow' which is almost invisible, but does allow you to check
that something *is* just a shortcut before say deleting it
