Highlight the underlined text and press the same shortcut again. It's a
"toggle" -- that is, press once to turn it on, and a second time to turn it
off. Most of the formatting shortcuts (italic, bold, underline, superscript,
subscript, etc.) work the same way.
In addition to what Bill and Jay have told you, Ctrl+Spacebar will turn off
or remove all directly applied font formatting and return the text to the
Default Paragraph Font (see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/DefParaFont.htm). This is handy if
you have applied, say, both bold and italic, as it requires just one
keystroke to remove both.
