When I hit ctrl S sheet will sort instead of save

I'd bet you have a macro that steals that shortcut.

Dave,

Thank you so much! I was working with a spreadsheet created by someone else,
and I'm inexperienced with macros, but when I went into Macros, there they
were... several set up to Sort. I deleted all of them and now ctrl S saves
instead of sorts!

our IT support wasn't able to figure it out either.. they suggested
upgrading excel, but the problem was still there. Thank you again!!

Go back to your IT folks and tell them to cut a check so that you can upgrade to
the newest version of excel. Then go buy something nice!
