My shortcut icons are showing up as a computer overlayed
over the real Icon. I tried to change the icon but it
changes right back to the computer icon. In the
Thumbnail view you can see both icons pictures the real
icon and the computer graphic

Hi Jim,

Download Tweak UI from Microsoft.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Using that utility you can repair all your icons as follows:
Click Repair, the last entry on the list on the left
Choose "Rebuilt Icons", from the dropdown menu
Click the "Repair Now" button.

.
I've tried that and it does change the icon for a split
second but goes back to the Computer picture.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Sounds like the computer icon has become the shortcut overlay. Use TweakUI, but look under:
"Explorer" -> "Shortcut"
