Shortcut Icons in System Tray

When I start up my PC, the icon for the shortcut keys - S1 to S6 - does not
show in the System Tray. I cannot therefore access my Mail, Music, Help &
Support etc from this icon. I have found that this S-Key item is shown
under"Past Items" on the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties screen. When I
click on the shortcut for the S-Keys on my Desktop and open/ close the
programme, the icon appears in the System Tray and moves from "Past Items" to
"Current Items" on the T and SMP screen and works normally. When the PC is
rebooted, the icon disappears from the System Tray again and returns to Past
Items. I have done all the usual things such as changing to "Always Show"
but this makes no difference.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated as this worked OK until quite
recently.

System tray only registers programs that are running. You must be
thinking of Quick launch items.

You can enable this by right-clicking on the task bar and select
properties. On the Taskbar tab there are some TICK buttons. One such
item is "Show Quick Launch".

This should enable most MS progs. If you want other programs then you
need to drag them to this bar.

Thanks for your quick reply.

I wasn't thinking of the Quick Launch as the "S" icon used to show in the
System Tray and all the associated S buttons were available at startup. I
assume that the programme is not opening on startup but I do not know how to
correct this and do not understand why the item keeps moving to "Past Items"
on the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties screen.

Do you know the name of the program? Let us know so that we can tell
you how it can be started automatically. Sometimes, it is not a good
idea to start programs you don't need all the time as they use lot of
memory!

What does this Action Setup supposed to do? It looks like it is a setup
program to get your system up and running and now you don't need it to
run again. I am just guessing!

Do you know what it is supposed to do? Have you got any instructions
for it? There must be a Sony CD for it in which case you could run it
again to see if it restores the full functionality of this program.

Thanks again.

I am using a Sony PC and the programme is "VAIO Action Setup".

I agree... try re-installing the VIAO Action Setup software (after
uninstalling from Control Panel).

Re-installation has solved the problem and I now have my icon back.

Many thanks to you both.
