I am using PowerPoint2003. Is there a way for me to add a short title (or
name) to each slide for quick reference. Currently the slide numbers 1,2
3,... would not be meaningful to the user.

Thanks.

Quick reference where ... that is, where would you want the user to see these
short titles?

Hi

PowerPoint takes the name of the slide from the text in the title place
holder (where it says 'Click to add title'. If you don't want this to be seen
on screen drag it off to the side or use text the same colour as the
background.

Use with Web Toolbar, under Browse/Go to slide/(needs a short title here)
