Shift Key

I held down the shift key for 8 secs. by accident. Now my mouse highlights
every text I click on. I tried turning off the filterkeys in the control
panel but it did not work.

If you have Windows XP, try clicking on Start | Control Panel | Mouse |
Buttons tab | uncheck the "Turn on ClickLock" box | Apply | OK.

I guess the SHIFT key could be broken (try a different keyboard), or Sticky
Keys have been enabled in Accessibility Options in Control Panel.

Another possibility is that you have inadvertently enabled Extend Selection
(by pressing F8). To turn this setting off, press ESC.
