It is just a port scanner.
It tests to see what open ports it can find on your system.
It is not harmful.

Yes, it can be very useful to know which ports are open.
Basically, if you are not running servers, no ports need to be open.
Often people find a number are open and they don't know why.

Your firewall should not respond to any unsolicited traffic.
If it does then you need another one, either hardware or software.
ZoneAlarm is good

When no servers are running that need exposed ports you should get a
stealthed response on every port.
