shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm

Parker

Hello,

I just did a new install of XP Pro. All settings in the browser are correct
according to my ISP and I can ping several web sites but I cannot get any
pages to display. At the bottom of the browser I get the message
shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm. This is a new install w/sp1 included and I havent
gotten on line other than being able to ping some IP addresses.
AdAware/Spybot/hijacking/ shows nothing! I've been to Microsofts site to
no avail, tried the Winsock Fix also with no success. I now concerned,
baffled and a bit upset with the lack of response to this problem. I know
I'm not the only one with this error message.

Thank You for Any Help!!

When you say ping some web addresses are you pinging the IP address or the
domain? What happens when you ping yahoo.com? If you can ping an IP address
but not the domain like yahoo.com then its a DNS problem. You say you went
to the MS site. Is this on another PC or does only the MS site work? If it
is DNS related then the standard steps need to be checked like correct DNS
IP on the adapter (network card, modem). Also make sure that if your ISP
uses an Internet Proxy you have that enabled (mostly dial up users). Post
back some more info. Also try Mozilla.org Browser. If its IE thats acting
up, then its good to have another browser to research the problem. You might
want to update the browser via MS update. I know it wont work when you try
to browse there but enable automatic updates in the Control Panel and it
should get the updates automatically and then you install them. Or you can
try MS Update via IP address.

windows update via IP address:
http://207.46.249.56 - same as http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://207.46.244.158/en/default.asp - same as
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com

I hope that helps.

Thank You for Your Response,

I can ping the actual IP address of Yahoo but I cannot see the page. I
cannot ping www.yahoo.com. I get no response. What bothers me is this is a
brand new installation with a newly purchased CD on a new harddrive. At the
bottom of the browser is where I see the message of
c:\windows\system32\shdoclc.dll\dnserror\htm after I try to change the URL
I'm going to. All say page cannot be displayed.

Thanks Again!!

Hi Jan,

Is this a repair program or a program to replace windows tasks?

Sorry, Parker, I misread part of your message. Here is the information on
this error, the one at the top.

It appears you may have parasites or malware on your system causing the
problem. Download, install, update and run the programs below. They are free
and very effective. Be sure to run both SpyBot and Adaware, as what one does
not detect the other may. Follow the directions carefully.

SpyBot Search & Destroy: Free
