Sharing Proprietary Files

I hate to use the word proprietary but...

I have an issue with documents and templates that I spend the time to create
and perfect...

someone sees them and I am asked to "send it to me" and for many years I
have not had a problem with that but increasingly I feel like my work is my
work and should not so easily be "shared".

Obviously I could be rude and say "no" but I don't mind someone "seeing"
what I have done I just don't want them to be able to go right in and change
fonts (or whatever) and think they can use my "stuff"

a hard copy does not always suffice

so...

i guess i want to password protect?? or make read only? or what?

how can i keep my files mine?

<maybe i need to change jobs--lol>
