Michael

I have a wi-fi home network with 2 comptuers. my comp. is
running xp pro and uses the wireless card, while my
parents have xp home and connect via cat.5 to the router
(linksys)

i want to be able to share files such as documents and
pictures and media. i've selected the "share folder"
where these files are located, but they don't show up on
the other computers. how can i share??

Just a gurss, but you should check to see if the XP firewall is selected
for the either or both of the LAN network connections. If it is,
disable it for it probably is the culprit.

You have to make sure that in both machines "file and
Printer sharing" is enabled on the network connection.
Also, disable all firewalls untill we get this to work...

Ok, but where should these folders/files appear on the
other machine? in the network places folder???

Thry this:
in Windows explorer, click "tools/Map Network drive"
type \\[host computer name]\[share name]
host computer name = name of the amchine where you have
setup the share
share name = name of the shared directory
That should get you connected if you've got no access
rights issues

Michael,

Make sure that you DO NOT have microsoft Internet
Connection Firewall turned on. This will not let the
other computers on your home network see the computer
that have it turned on.
For Security Protection, I'd suggest you use the features
built into your router along with a software firewall.

I hope this helps
