I recently upgraded from Win2k pro to WinXP pro another
machine on my network is still Win2k but can no longer
access the shares of the upgraded pc both are still in
the same workgroup everyone has acces to the shares yet I
get a message the "Login Failure: user account
restriction"

XP does not allow network access with blank passwords.

"Rob Elder said:
XP does not allow network access with blank passwords.

I think that statement is much too broad, Rob, because:

1. By default, a Windows XP pro computer in a workgroup allows access
by all network users, whether or not they have blank passwords.

2. If you explicitly disable simple file sharing on XP Pro, you can
still allow access by users with blank passwords. Ron Lowe and I have
written a web page with details:

WinXP Pro File Sharing
User Accounts: Password or No Password?
