Sharing of a *.pst file possible?

On a network drive there is a *.pst file which I want to use
from two Outlook 2003 installations on two different computers.

The problem is when I add the *.pst file from the second Outlook installation
then the *.pst file is disconnected from the first Outlook installation.
So it seems to me there is exclusive usage from only one OL installation.

Is there a way to setup a shared *.pst file anyway?

No. Each Outlook needs read/write access to the file so only one instance
can access it at any one time. There are other solutions:

There is no native way of doing that. Also connecting to pst-files on a
network share is not supported by Microsoft and could lead to data
corruption or even data loss.

If you want to share data stored in a pst-file you'll need a 3rd party tool
such as;
Easy2Sync for Outlook

Correct, Outlook opens PST files for exclusive use. Therefore only 1
running instance of Outlook can access said file. Since you are working in
a workgroup style setup, you would have to go 3rd party to get the desired
functionality. You will find a list of solutions that do this here:

..pst files are not meant for sharing - hence the name "personal" folders.

Take a look here, it may help:
