Sharing folders between NT4 and XP Pro

I have a small home network using a Dlink 4-port router.
I have recently added an old NT 4 work station system and
would like to share folders between this and the two XP
Pro systems.

All systems are in the same subnet using DHCP, I have
turned off the firewalls and ICF on the NT4 and XP Pro
system. I have shared a folder on both the NT and Pro
system. However, if I try to map a network drive using
the syntax using ip addresses \\x.x.x.x\foldername I
get "network path was not found" error message on either
side, i.e. if I try to map from the XP to NT or the other
way round.

I can happily share folders between the two XP systems
this way. What am I doing wrong with the NT system?

many thanks

David

The first question I always ask is if you can ping. if not, compare ipconfig
/all or post it here.

Hi Robert,

I can ping the other system from both the XP & NT sides.

I don't have access to my home systems right now, but I
can post the ipconfig data later, I know the systems had
IP addresses of 192.168.1.10 & 192.168.1.116 and both had
the same subnet mask.

I can cross mount file systems between XP systems, but if
I try the NT system which is the .116 address I get the
error message "network path was not found"

Any further pointers welcome.

Thanks
