Sharing folder and permission problem oddity

Hello everyone.

I have a laptop I use sparingly that's driving me a bit nuts with
regard to networking and folder sharing. It's in a Wireless-G
environment and that all works just fine.

The problem is that on my main PC I have a folder called "C:\Download"
where I copy most temporary files and programs to.

I then want to be able to access those files from the laptop. All I
want to do is to copy files from there to the laptop, edit the files
from the laptop, delete the files from the laptop, etc.

So, on the PC I have Simple file sharing setup and under "Networking
sharing and security" I have both options there checked and the name
"Download" typed in as the share name.

On the laptop I can see the folder and access SOME files in it, but
about 50% of the files give me permission errors when I try to copy,
edit, delete or run them over from the PC.

Here's the oddity. If I place ANY of these files in a folder BELOW
"Download", then I can do whatever I need to do with the file from the
laptop.

I don't get it. Why is this failing when it does and why does sharing
work below the folder I've set to share but not correctly for the
folder in question?

It sounds like permissions aren't 100% here. I would set permissions on the
main folder (right click folder -- security tab) once you have those
established choose "advanced" from the security tab and check "replace
permission entries on all child objects..." this should take care of it.

Remember this is Simple File Sharing.

When I right click the folder I don't have a Security option. I have a
Sharing and Security option.

There I have only two boxes to check and no Advanced option.

I can add more security but don't want any solution that results in my
having to log into my own desktop PC which no one else uses.
