sharing calendars and contactes from network comp.

we have outlook 2000 xp and we have 2 computers networked. We want to be able
to view eachothers calanders and contacts from our computers...we have been
told 2 different thing that we will need to buy a exchange server and others
say it can be done. can someone tell us if we need to or not.
