Is it possible to share a DVD burner through a network on our home PC's?

Windows does not share optical widgets the way it shares files. Unless
the vendor of the burner supplied some extra code, you are out of luck.

Windows does support sharing of file-structured CD/DVDs, but this means
you can read-share CD/DVDs that have been appropriately written; you cannot
write-share.

Thank you Bob, that confirmed my thoughts. My question arose because the Pinnacle Studio 8 program I have does not recognize my MSI DVD-ROM. Pinnacle does not list MSI as a supported hardware device on their web site; now I find out
:-
Thanks for your input

you CAN share a dvd/cd-rw IF it is in packet-writing mode
(like a floppy) but NOT if it isn't.

most cd's and dvd's must be mastered before being
written. packet-writing is different...you write files
one at a time. you need extra programs like ez cd creator
or nero to use packet writing; it is not included in xp.
